Captured on June 15, 2024, this image features the Nickel Plate Road 765, a historic 2-8-4 S-2 Berkshire steam locomotive, pulling the Tri-State Excursion between Edon, Ohio, and Hillsdale, Michigan. The photograph was taken with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone. The 765, known for its "superpower" technology, stands at 15 feet tall and weighs 404 tons. It was originally built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944 and has been restored to its former glory by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. The locomotive emits a thick plume of smoke as it chugs through a wooded area in the late morning. This powerful steam engine, which once served fast-freight and passenger trains, now operates as a moving testament to American engineering and railroad history.
